Film photography.

A few months ago, I decided to try film photography. It's not that it is my first time shooting film - I'm 40 yo, I definitely did this before - but it is the first time that I'm really trying to learn and understand more about it after years shooting digital.

So, to warm up, I bought an almost disposable camera: the Kodak M38. It is a poorly constructed point-and-shoot camera, with no adjustable settings. The lens is a 31mm F10. It is meant for sunny days only. I shot 3 different rolls: Kodak Ultramax 400, Fujifilm Super X-TRA 400 and Ilphord HP5. Here are some shots:

After the M38 experience, I took a step further and bought a 1995 Minolta Capios 25 for a reasonable price (around 40 dollars). It's another point and shoot, but with more flexible built in settings and a fairly sharp 28-70mm zoom lens with f3.5 of maximum aperture at 28mm. Shutter speed goes from 1/500 all the way to 1/8 sec. of exposure and it allows you to take photos in “mild” low light situations.

As i said at the beginning, I'm still in the “warm up” fase, but the shooting experience was way better with this camera.

Something that I want to learn in a near future is how to properly scan the negatives. I don’t have the apparatus for scanning at home, so all this pictures you see came directly from a lab. Developing is another issue, but for now I will be using labs for the job.

The whole debate about film vs digital is kind of pointless to me. It's a hobby and because of it, I want to test and experiment as much as I can.
